Eden Murray is a sprinter at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where she has quickly established herself as one of the top female athletes in the program’s history. Known for her quiet determination, relentless work ethic, and natural speed, Eden has emerged as a dominant force in the 100 and 200 meters and sprint relays.
Currently, Eden has posted a personal best of 11.56 in the 100m and 23.8 in the 200m. She runs anchor for the newly comprised 4x100m team where she consistently shows her speed and endurance. She is the CIF Division 2 Champion and now holds the100m record in the Trinity League, and placed first in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m races. Eden took first in the 100m & 200m sprints as well as the 4x100m race at the Laguna Beach Invitationals and holds the OC Championships Meet record and the 2nd fastest time in OC history. Eden is presently ranked 7th in the state of California. She has now broken Mater Deis 100m record for the 5th time and holds the record for the 200m, placing her among the top competitors in Orange County and the CIF Southern Section. Her 100m time ranks her among the top returning sprinters in the region. Her performances position her as a strong contender for advancement through the CIF Southern Section and qualification for the California State Championships, with continued improvement anticipated throughout the season.
Over the past two years, Eden has trained under Olympic Gold Medalist Al Joyner, whose distinguished career includes an Olympic Gold in the long jump, multiple national and international titles and decades of coaching elite athletes at the highest level. Under his guidence, Eden has developed technical precision alongside valuable competitive experience establishing herself as a rising prospect on the national sprint stage. She has also worked closely with Mater Dei sprints coach Sam Collins, who has been an integral part of one of the most successful high school track programs in California having produced multiple CIF, state, and national champions. Collins' hands on coaching and attention to detail has played a huge role in her growth and success.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Eden is known for her discipline, character, and positive presence among teammates and coaches. As she continues to develop, she remains focused on reaching her full potential both on the track and in the next chapter of her academic and athletic career. Eden has spent the last four years focusing on her grades and community service and will graduate from Mater Dei with a 4.2 GPA and the Bronze Congressional Award.
Outside of training, studying and helping her community, Eden loves to spend time with her friends, shopping, going to concerts and reading.
History
2025
Eden was the Trinity League Champion in the 100m and 4x100 relay, as well as an Orange County Champion in both events, earning recognition as one of the premier sprinters in Southern California. Eden has also been named team MVP, a reflection of both her performance and leadership on and off the track.
A key contributor on Mater Dei’s 4x100m relay team for 2025 running the 2nd leg, Eden competed consistently at a championship level and played an important role in the team’s success. Helping to take the team to CIF finals and state prelims. Concurrently she ran the 100m, placing well through CIF and making it to state prelims to land her 19th in the state.
2023 & 2024
Eden began her track career as a freshman with no prior experience, hoping to find a fun extracurricular activity and quickly emerged as a standout talent. She went on to become a two-time Trinity League JV Champion in both the 100m and 200m and winning the long Jump (in 2022) earning Team MVP honors in each of those seasons. In 2024, she also captured the Orange County Championships JV titles in the 100m and 200m and placed 2nd in the 4x100m. Recognizing her natural ability early on, longtime coach Rick Martinez, alongside Olympic hurdler and sprints coach Sam Collins, focused on developing her natural talent and potential.
